It's difficult to get away the Yuletide spirit on a journey to Iceland during the holidays - a holiday to Reykjavik will be filled with a totally awesome quantity of Xmas good cheer. The city goes wild for an excellent Christmas occasion, and starts ringing in the season in the beginning of December, with the lighting of the town's X-mas tree at Austurvöllur square. The festivity consists of choirs singing carols and the arrival of the 1st of the "Holiday Lads," 13 Santas who appear around town throughout Lent.
Other preferred holiday sights also include the X-mas Village in Hafnarfjörður town, a tiny, cheery town chock full of stores offering holiday season gifts and classical foods in the middle of live activities, and a visit to Reykjavik's main X-mas Market place in Ingólfstorg Square, which fills with merchants offering vacation gifts, mulled wine and performances from a variety of entertainers.
To have an old-fashioned, Nordic Christmas, go to the Christmas exhibition at the Reykjavik City Museum, where exhibits showcase the way fried bread is produced, tallow is applied to make candles, and guests can learn traditional Yuletide songs and dances.
